Woodlake Botanical Gardens hosts a rose garden reported to have more varieties of roses than the Boston Botanical Gardens.
Walk in the Gardens and Around the Lake
This well-kept secret is out in the open now. Students from prestigious universities tour these gardens maintained by Professor Manual Jiminez and his wife, Olga. Helping them student volunteers from the Tiger Pride organization earn community service credit, and learn about horticulture. Written up in national newsletters and broadcast on national radio, the garden has hundreds of varieties of roses as well as herbs, vegetables, fruits and trees.
Next, we will visit the new Woodlake Valley Cultural Museum featuring a large display of Native American basketry items. As we head out of town, we will take a quick driving tour of Woodlake's numerous murals.
The final meetup will be at the home of Marsha Ingrao for lunch and a quick swim in a heated pool, weather permitting.
